About Feeding the Birds

Since we are feeding Birds the Wildlife in our Garden has been booming. From Sparrows to Jay Birds passing by Sparrow Hawks, we have a great variety of Birds so much so that we did become Bird Watchers. And I must confess that we do enjoy it so much. I will add that with the Pandemic (Covid 19), Lock Downs and so on, the Garden has been our Haven, our little natural retreat.

Our Jay Bird, we have three in the Garden.

With a variety of Birds of course comes a variety of Food needs and differents Diets. We do try to cater for all upon our feeding table. We do have multiple Bird Feeders which are popular with the small Birds like Sparrows, Tits, and Starlings. But we do also have a lots of ground feeder, so we are not forgetting about them: Black Birds are some but also Robins, Collared Doves, Jays...

Appart from Birds feeders, another essential is Water. It is easy to forget but Water is extremelly important to Birds in all weathers and all Seasons. Not only they drink it but they also bath in it. We do have multiple Bird Baths in order to help our feathery population. During a very hot Summer  it helps the Birds greatly to drink but also to cool down.  In a freezing Winter to break the ice of a Bird Bath is a relief for the Birds.

Another important thing to feed the Birds with is Fat and Suet. It does help them to go through the Winter, but also during the Spring when they are nesting and then feeding their Chicks, Babies.

Spring is the season when we see the Birds bringing their younsters to our feeding stations, still feeding them but teaching them to fend for themselves as well. Baby Blue Tit with an adult one which carry on feeding her/his young fledgling.

Finally I will say that feeding the Birds brings a great amount of pleasure. It is very soothing to watch them. Before you know it you will be grabbed and like us most probably will end up getting a Bird guide book to know what is the little Fauna within your patch of the woods or town Garden.

Mr Plumpy on the rock.JPG

Our Robin 'Mr Plumpy', although he is no longer with us (passed away after 6 good old years) he left his family in our Garden. We have four Robins now living in our trees. They are not wild and always come to the feeding Whistle call and are so inquisitive like Mr Plumpy was.
