Crocus Ruby Giant.

Crocus is a Flower which signifies so much early Spring but in the same token can also blossom in Autumn. There are many varieties out there but I must confess that I only tried three including one I do not remember the name of (seizure is to blame for my spelling mistakes but also my partial memory). However I did try to grow Saffron Crocus rather successfully I would say.

To be honest it was one of my many experiments like the lets grow some Mushrooms scheme... I did grow the Saffron Crocus for only one year but they never showed up again and this was a good while ago, I will say may be nine years to a decade. I can roughly tell because we stopped using slug pellets or any insecticide about seven years now. We use Frogs and Ladybirds instead to control the Garden for us.

Anyhow I did manage to have Saffron which I was very happy about. I am also willing to try that experiment again but this time to not make it a one year affair. I must learn to grow them so they come back the following year and so on.

Saffron is a rather expensive product on the market but a delightful ingredient in the kitchen.

For 2022, this coming year I have my eyes on growing Ruby Giant. It is a purple Crocus which should be a delight to see blossoming either in the Spring or in September-October time. Potentially they should be looking like that:

A crocus comes in different colours but for some reason I always like the purple ones better. The state of my Ruby Giant at this moment in time is that they are being 'nursed' at home until I have a nice place to put them in the Garden when there is no more storms nor frost.
