Periwinkle.

To be honest we didn't grow Periwinkle, they came to our Garden from our neighbour Stan's Garden to ours... None of us want to cut down the Ivy that almost covers entirely the wooden fence nor the Periwinkle plant which is doing the same. The fact is that both plants provide a refuge but also a nesting zone to Sparrows and Dunnocks.

Frankly speaking we thought that the plant was a variegated Ivy until the day it produced flowers. Then I recognised the flowers I saw in my childhood called 'Pervenche'. Their purple colour was known in French for being the ones of the women in uniform giving you parking tickets. The French called them the 'Pervenches' and feared when they saw a lady dressed in that colour checking cars in the streets.

Anyhow our one after research is a fairly long established one. It is variegated so it is not that old and was purchased at some point by Stan, his RIP wife or the previous owner of his house.

The scientific name of our one is Vinca Minor. But as I said a variegated one. We want to keep it going but also to propagate it. Because along with Ivy that plant can provide a coverage and an habitat for small Birds.
