Those Chicken Skewers are extremely simple to pull out of the bag. However they are ever so tasty. Versatile those Chicken Skewers work equally well with Mediterranean Sides as well as Asian Sides. Deliciousely glazed with sticky Maple Syrup, put upon a stick in a zig zag fashion, those Chicken Breasts Skewers are very attractive.

Sticky glazed Chicken Skewers
Timing
  • Preptime: 24 hours of sousing/ marinating time & 5 to 10 min
  • Cooktime: 15-20 minutes.
  • Servings: 2-4 portions
Ingredients

Chicken Breasts 3-4.

Maple Syrup. Drizzle and just by eyes.

Buttermilk 750 ml.

Black Peppercorn, Cracked.

Sea Salt just a little.

Steps

First silk your Chicken Breasts in a bowl of Buttermilk with a little Black cracked Peppercorns. It is better to cut the Breasts into strips not too thin but not too large either. Give or take about 2 cm in width. Leave the Breasts to marinate in the Buttermilk overnight in a Fridge. Ensure that you cover the bowl with cling film. The silking process tenderise the Meat and gives it a nice taste.

The Process of Silking. In the picture, there it was Chicken Thighs used for another recipe.

The following day, put the wooden Skewers in Water to prevent them from burning when you will be Grilling or Griddling. Leave them to soak as you take the Chicken Breasts Bowl out of the fridge. Drain the Buttermilk and keep the strips of tender Chicken Breasts.

As for the Buttermilk you can not keep it because it has touch raw Meat, therefore it can not be reused. It would be an Health hazard.

Warm up your Griddle or Grill to a faily high temperature.

Remove the wooden Skewers from the Water. Over a plate start to prepare each Skewer by Zig Zaging the Strip of Chicken Breast, one by one upon them. After each one made put them on a different plate ready to be lathered with Maple Syrup.

The next step is to Grill all the Chicken Skewers in batches, making sure that they are turned regularly for them to be cooked evenly. Because they are small strips they do not take long to cook however I will recommand 20 minutes to be on the safe side. You can always take one Skewer out and check that the Chicken is cooked properly: The Test.

When all the Skewers are ready just enjoy them. They do make a nice and easy Saturday evening meal which is not labour intensive.

All that need to be thought about beforehand is which side do you want with them?  as I said those Sticky Chicken Skewers goes really well with Asian Flavours (Beansprouts, Pak Choi, Chilli, Spring Onions, Rice or Noodles, Sesame Seeds, Baby Sweetcorn, Edamame Beans...).

But they also work wonders with the flavours of the Med', like Tomatoes, Courgettes, Radicchio Leaves, Kalamata Olives, Feta Cheese, Frisée Lettuce to make a nice side Salad.
